31st street Bridge and SR 28 from Troy Hill Road to the city limits in the city of Pittsburgh, PA
CDR Maguire provided award-winning construction inspection and management services for PennDOT District 11-0 for the 31st Street Bridge and SR 28 from Troy Hill Road to the city limits in City of Pittsburgh project (SR 0028, SECTION A09). The project received the following awards:
- 2014 Transportation Project of the Year Award from the Engineering Society of Western Pennsylvania
- 2014 Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Pittsburgh Chapter
- 2014 Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers
Key elements of this project included 1.2 miles of roadway reconstruction, 2,456 feet of new wall construction, replacement of 515 feet of the 31st Street Bridge, one new abutment with tieback anchors, one pier with a caisson foundation, and the remainder on four rebuilt pier caps.
CDR Maguire provided construction inspection and documentation services, construction management services including web-based document control, environmental monitoring, claims support, engineering support, and schedule monitoring. CDR Maguire was instrumental in the constructability and schedule reviews associated with the rephasing of this complex structure and roadway project, revising sequencing that reduced traffic control phases from six down to four.
